The Best of New York for the Holidays

The Ride

Play tourist in New York City this month at the Bank of America Winter Village in Bryant Park (wintervillage.org), where there’s free ice-skating and 128 holiday shops. Then, head to the New York Botanical Garden (nybg.org/hts16) for the annual Holiday Train Show ($8 kids, $20 adults). For something unexpected, The Ride: Holiday Edition (experiencetheride.com) is a high-tech motor coach with floor-to-ceiling windows and side-facing seats that takes you on a 4.2-mile ride through NYC, complete with strategically-placed street performances ($79). Another less mainstream but equally festive experience is A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours’ Christmas Lights Tour (asliceofbrooklyn.com), where you’ll see over-the-top, extravagant lights (reminiscent of Clark W. Griswold’s display in Christmas Vacation) in Dyker Heights ($50 for adults and $40 for children under 12).
