Greenwich Botanical Garden’s Frolic in the Forest fundraiser on Sunday April 28 welcomed more than 130 guests to its annual spring celebration This year’s event featured a Fairy House Scavenger Hunt and local Author Lizzy Rockwell. Proceeds support GBC youth programming. The afternoon’s events kicked off with local students sporting spring-themed children’s fashions designed by Fifi & Bella, JoJo Maman Bebe, Monogram Mary, Petit Maison Kids, Roller Rabbit and Vineyard Vines.

Old Greenwich-based author and illustrator Lizzy Rockwell spoke to the audience about her work, sharing tips on storytelling and illustration.  After reading one of her books Plants Feed Me to attendees, Rockwell sketched live, interactively engaging children’s suggestions as she brought to life their imaginative nature elements in an original illustration now on display at GBC.

After designing woodland-themed arts and crafts, attendees poured into the Montgomery Pinetum to explore a magical fairy garden forest featuring dozens of fairy houses crafted by GBC volunteers, staff and committee members’ children. “I Spy” directions encouraged empowering talents as children counted tiny carrots, fed firehouse fairies, read about the blue dragon and maneuvered Harry Potter’s kingdom. Giant vibrantly colored fairy wings provided a backdrop for unique photos.

Refreshments were provided by Randy’s Wine, il Pastaficio, and Gelato & Cioccolato, all located in Cos Cob. “The energy and enthusiasm our volunteers shared to create this nature-based activity day for families lays the groundwork for more of this in-demand environmental enrichment so vital for our children,” says GBC Board President Meg McAuley Kaicher. Greenwich Botanical Center is a non-profit member-based volunteer organization dedicated to promoting horticulture, conservation and the arts through educational programs, outreach activities and special events.
