Golf Event to Fight Childhood Hunger

Filling in the Blanks (FIB), the Fairfield County-based non-profit that battles childhood hunger by providing children in need with meals on the weekend, hosted it’s Fifth Annual Golf Outing Fairways for Food at the GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford, NY.

Golfers got a spectacular day for playing. On the 9th hole, players got a chance to win The Hole in One Prize, a new car, from Porsche of Larchmont. Throughout the day golfers enjoyed Elm Restaurant’s signature Bloody Mary’s, served by celebrity bartender John Barker, as well as Arnold Palmers.

The silent auction was in full force with many highly sought-after items. There was fierce bidding competition on things like dinner at Rao’s, international travel, private wine tastings, and a selection of fine art from ABXY-LES. Golfers finished up the day and joined evening attendees for a cocktail and dinner reception on the beautiful Lower Terrace overlooking the 12th hole.

The evening concluded with remarks from the founders, Shawnee Knight and Tina Kramer, Sara Arnold, a social worker from Roxbury Elementary and a remarkable mother and her children from the program. The dedicated 28 women committee made the event a huge success, surpassing the number of funds raised in previous years.

“Childhood hunger is a national problem, and one that must be addressed on a community basis,” said Shawnee Knight co-founder, Filling in the Blanks. “The money we raise through this golf event ensures that we can continue serving the children in our program all year-round, and expand to serve even more.”

Founded in 2013 by two Fairfield County residents, FIB strives to remove the obstacle of food insecurity faced by thousands of children by providing children in need with weekend meals. This program currently serves more than 850 children in Fairfield and Westchester counties.
