More than 100 volunteers gathered at the Greenwich Land Trust’s Louise Mueller Preserve at 370 Round Hill Road to celebrate Earth Day with a day of action. Conservationists of all ages came out on the sunny spring day to help transplant native wildflower seedlings and Sugar Maple saplings, turn over soil in the vegetable and pollinator gardens, and plant trees and shrubs.
Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses provided three American hollies and assorted shrubs and helped with the installations. Emerald Tree Care was on site to assist with the Sugar Maple sapling planting. Volunteers from Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich, Greenwich Country Day School, Greenwich Garden Club, ShopRite, and the surrounding community came ready to work, and enjoyed lunch provided by Corbos Corner Deli along with snacks from ShopRite and Whole Foods Market. The afternoon ended with the special release of a fish crow back into its natural habitat by Wildlife in Crisis.
Greenwich Land Trust is dedicated to preserving open space permanently, and protecting its ecological integrity for the benefit of this and future generations.
