The second annual Lovemark Foundation charity pro-am took place at the Hudson National Golf Course in New York, with a goal to raise funds that go directly towards helping brain cancer patients and their families pay for everything from medical bills and supplies to weekly groceries. Founded by PGA golfer Jamie Lovemark and his wife, Tiva, the foundation works in collaboration with Yale New Haven Hospital’s neurosurgery department and social work oncology team to allocate funds to those suffering the financial burden of brain cancer care. The event lies close to the Lovemark family’s heart as they combine Jamie’s career and passion with Tiva’s determination to give back after being diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in 2002 and receiving treatment at Yale New Haven Hospital.
The day began with a warm-up clinic with swing coach Chris Como before 18 foursomes and 15 players from the PGA tour, including Brendan Steele and Harris English, set off on the green. This year’s hole-in-one prize was a brand new Mercedez Benz, but, at the terrace cocktail party later that evening, friends, family, and members of the board had the opportunity to bid on several elite auction items, including rare sports memorabilia, luxurious spa treatments, and one-of-a-kind experiences. With a total of over $200,000 raised, the Lovemark Foundation ended the night in success and plans to continue the fundraiser in upcoming years.
