Pequot Library Hosts Derby Party

Pequot Library’s Derby Day party is one of the beloved institution’s biggest fundraisers, raising critical funds to support the more than 500 programs, exhibitions, and library services offered throughout the year and helping to further the Library’s mission of bringing literature, music, art, science and the humanities to the community. Dressed to the nines, over 400 guests celebrated the 144th Kentucky Derby on Pequot Library’s majestic Great Lawn. Dozens of decorated tailgates were arranged around the perimeter of Pequot Library’s stunning property and set a picture perfect backdrop for a fun and glorious afternoon of fabulous hats, cold drinks, hot food and great conversation.

Cinch Gourmet provided traditional Southern Fare, and cocktails were provided by Broken Shed Vodka, Valor Spirits, Highland Imports and Hartley & Parker. Guests followed trumpeter Steve Smith and his wonderful rendition of Fanfare into Pequot’s historic Auditorium to view the “greatest two minutes in sports.” The exciting race was capped off with an exciting live auction of a Maserati rental as well as awards for Best Dressed, Best Tailgate and Best Hat. Derby Day Chairs Kelly and Rob Scinto invited everyone to stay for the “After Party”, which included El Placerito’s Taco Truck, margaritas, dancing under the tent until the wee hours to the masterful mixes by Deejay Rob Alexander.
