Close to 200 swimmers and 150 volunteers came together to raise $350,000 for the annual Swim Across America Fairfield County open-water swim in Long Island Sound. Swim Across America offers swims nationwide, but its roots are firmly planted in Connecticut, where Darien resident Matt Vossler and his college roommate Jeff Keith founded the organization in 1987. The featured speaker was Old Greenwich resident Mike Brock. Team Julian and Team College were top fundraising teams while top individual fundraisers were Peter Carlson and Andy Alisberg. Money raised will go toward breakthrough cancer cell and gene therapy research with Stamford-based Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT).
