April Larken is a Greenwich-based DJ, by way of NYC and London.
With a natural flair for mixing music and an early career in fashion design, April stands firmly at the intersection of music and fashion and is equally influenced by both. After training with today’s top DJs
at Scratch Academy in NYC, she’s quickly become one of the most in-demand Female DJs in Fairfield county. Her signature sound spans the eras and blends all genres. She’ll seamlessly segue from current pop hits into classic hip hop, alt rock and 90’s throwbacks.
Those close to April are not surprised to find her behind the turntables at the chicest parties, she’s always been known for her creativity and exceptional taste in music. Even as a kid, April was making mix tapes (remember those?) for her friends. During the years she spent in NYC studying art history at NYU and fashion design at FIT, music was always present. She would set her collections to music by day and was a “NYC Club Kid” by night, befriending and being inspired by the popular DJs of the moment.
Before DJing, April made a name for herself in the bridal fashion world —in NYC at top couture houses Vera Wang and Carolina Herrera, and in London as a private client wedding dress designer. Years later those connections remain strong, as she seasonably curates music for NY Bridal Fashion Week, including Matthew Christopher’s SS2017 collection. April has also provided the soundtrack for numerous charity runway shows such as the Fearless Angels Project, Breast Cancer Alliance, and Project Blessings Rwanda.
Whether she’s DJing a high-profile launch or leading a crowd into the wee hours at a charity gala, April is steadily building her DJ reputation beat by beat. Her client list includes Allure magazine, Samuel Owen Gallery, Bruce Museum, J. McLaughlin, Serendipity and Look Magazine to name a few. April opened for pop star Gavin DeGraw at Greenwich Hospital’s Under the Stars concert and The Greenwich International Film Festival trusted April with getting the crowd warmed up before Flo Rida took the stage at their annual Opening Night Party.
To April, her recent success is about so much more than being the Girl DJ at a trendy party—this is a lifetime of music obsession come to fruition.
