For almost 50 years, Anthony Lawrence has been custom creating home furnishings, from its beginnings in a small upholstery shop in Greenwich, to its current state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Long Island City. Coming full circle, the company recently founded Anthony Lawrence Home, a new interior design studio in Greenwich with a global influence and personalized attention.
What are you best known for?
We are best known for creating the finest heirloom furniture.
What’s the one thing about your business that most people don’t know?
My grandfather started here in Greenwich on Hamilton Avenue, and 50 years later we are humbled to have our family’s fourth generation in the business. We are very honored to have had such success in this industry, but it hasn’t come without old world traditional craftsmanship and, of course, a lot of hard work.
What design trends do you love right now?
We love mid-century right now, the overall design and scale is so perfect for today’s lifestyle.
What pieces should every home have?
As it is in most homes, the family room is where everyone comes together, and nothing compliments a room better then a beautiful hand-crafted sofa. Not only a piece that you can enjoy every day, but also a piece that your entire family will think about when they think of home.
What should people keep in mind before shopping for furnishings?
Truly understanding and appreciating what they are investing in and how to properly choose items to scale within a room. This is why we urge all of our clients to not only come into the store but to come view their pieces during different stages of production.
What is your best seller?
The Breck sofa and the American vintage chair.
Where do you suggest splurging when it comes to decorating a home?
One should always splurge on the main rooms and the master bedroom.
