Where do you recommend people splurge when decorating a home? The bedroom—this room is a place of beauty, but also needs to function as a true sanctuary to rest and recharge in daily. We spend one third of our lives in bed and we know the benefits of good sleep to promote health and energy. Bed linens are at the core of the ultimate night’s sleep. Better sheets mean better sleep, so we advise our clients to buy the best that they can afford. So whether crisp cotton percale orluxuriantly soft sateen sheeting, plush brushed cotton or hand knit blankets, lofty down duvets or supple wool coverlets, we layer a bed to create an extraordinary experience of comfort. And I need to mention the ultimate fabric for ultimate sleep, which is linen. Durable linen has been used since the beginning of time because it gets better and softer with use and perfectly regulates in all seasons—warm in winter and cool on summer nights.
What design trend have you seen recently that you love? I love the importance of textural elements—chunky knits, hand-stitched quilts, fluffy furs, slubby linens, metallic shimmer and cut velvets.
What’s your favorite accessory? A throw—it’s an item that is both practical and beautiful, providing comfort and luxury while adding color and texture to a room.
What’s the handiest design trick you lean on in a pinch? Changing the soft furnishings in any space—using throws and pillows in a living space or redressing the bed in a bedroom. The use of textiles can instantly revive and update any décor scheme.
