Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, a luxury home furnishing brand, began in 1989 with the idea of comfort for all. Comfort begins with a pleasing palette. We talked to Co-Founder and President of Design Bob Williams about how his team uses color and pattern to transform spaces in big and small ways.
How do color and pattern play an important role in your work? It’s not just color and pattern. It’s texture, softness, metals like silver and gold and materials. The first thing I do is think about the mood I want to convey. If I want it to be soothing or relaxing, I pick elements that exude those feelings. Color reflects and influences the mood of the room, as does pattern, which can really convey time periods.
What color and pattern trends are you seeing in interior design this spring? For sure spring 2019 has more pattern and color than we have done in a long time. If you look at our new Les Petite Seats Collection you can see a lot of the new fabrics and colors. All our fabrics can be used on any of our upholstery; we have over 300 fabrics to choose from, or bring us your own.
What advice can you give clients for finding the right color for their home? I always tell people not to think about color first but to think about function. Once you decide what the function of the room needs to be, and determine what furniture pieces will be needed for that purpose, color and style can be a lot easier to choose. In the bedroom, for example, use storage pieces with a lighter finish to create a calming space reminiscent of a beach getaway. There are so many ways to create the space you want using color. Our design team is trained to help meet your goals.
