Everyone has a favorite spot in the house. For some, it’s a living room where you can relax in style. For others, it’s a state-of-the-art kitchen that’s beautiful enough for  hosting a cocktail party. Here, local designers and architects share their most successful spaces—and insider resources—so you can create the room of your dreams, too.

The window seat, accented with the client’s daughter’s stuffed dog, is a favorite spot for reading and hanging out with friends.

Lillian August senior designers Eileen McManus and Lisa Hyman share their inspiration for a charming bedroom in Riverdale, NY:  “It’s a 13-year-old girl’s ‘forever bedroom,’” says McManus. The goal: to make it fun but sophisticated and timeless. The lush peony wallpaper (Madame Butterfly by Designers Guild) sets the tone for the room, which is outfitted with a classic Old Biscayne Designs writing desk and Suzanne Kasler upholstered chair. The secret for mixing prints, without clashing? Sticking to small patterns on the Robert Allen Winding Leaves valance, Manuel Canovas fabric pillows and Silver Creek geometric rug. Everything is unified in a pink and navy and white palette, which the daughter loved. “When she walked into the room, she felt at home,” says McManus. lillianaugust.com
