Deane, Inc.

DEANE, Inc. has created countless rooms featuring custom cabinetry designs in the โ€จtri-state area. The family-owned company combines their passions for excellent craftsmanship and innovative design with an old-fashioned work ethic and outstanding customer service, with the goal of giving each client a truly custom work of art.

Can you please summarize your business?*
Since 1961 DEANE, Inc. has been providing innovative and compelling designs throughout Connecticut, Westchester, New York City and beyond. Both of our showrooms display the latest design trends, newest materials and creative accessories.

Whatโ€™s your favorite room to design?
Kitchens, but recently I have enjoyed designing mudrooms for clients and I just completed my own. With three kids and a yellow lab, it tends to be the most active room in the house. Good design with thoughtful consideration on how you want it to function creates efficienciesโ€ฆalthough my youngest occasional ignores his coat hook!

What was your inspiration for becoming a designer?
As a third generation business, I was exposed to design at an early age. My summer months involved visiting jobsites with my father, installing cabinetry or pushing a pencil on the drafting board (pre-computers!).

What materials do you like to use most?
Integrating metals with wood. Subtle (or large) elements of metal incorporated into a design will add texture and interest.

Where do you suggest splurging when decorating a home?
Where you spend the most amount of your waking hours and get the best ROI (return on investment)โ€”the kitchen.

Who would you most love to design a kitchen (or bath, or closet) for and why?
My wife. We bought our house in 2007 and ironically it had a DEANE kitchen which looks timeless and functions great. My wife runs a cooking school called โ€˜Culinary Worksโ€™ so we have designed two culinary kitchens in our showrooms in New Canaan and Stamford, and now itโ€™s time to design one for our home.

Describe your ideal client?
An ideal client is one who has an opinion and willing to listen to my guidance and advice throughout the project.

What is the most common design mistake youโ€™ve seen and how do you correct it?
A frequent design mistake I see in kitchens โ€จis the lack of rhythm and proportions. โ€จThe proper approach to resolve this mistake is to recognize the dimensions you are working within and scale according to your design objective.
