How a Designer Brought the Outdoors In

Serenity and relaxation—that’s exactly what you feel when walking into this shoreside home on the Long Island Sound. “My goal was to have a seamless relationship between the indoors and outdoors,” says Cassandra Byrnes, founder of C.A.B. Designs in Niantic, CT, and Naples, FL. The client, who has interests in travel, wine and art, also wanted a more modern aesthetic, which Byrnes was able to incorporate through a sleek wine rack and curated paintings, objects d’art and various textiles. Byrnes was also able to discreetly blend the clients’ high-tech features, like automatic window coverings, into the décor.

With an open concept floor plan, Byrnes gave each living space its own personal- ity, while still providing a dialogue between them so that they flow together. “The great room, just off the foyer area, has an added sophistication with its proximity to the dramatic staircase and glass wine room. This space has a luxe quality with the more polished furnishings,” says Byrnes.

“For the adjoining sitting room, I kept a similar color palette but brought in a more relaxed vibe with soft, sun-washed textures and casual accessories with natural fibers. The backdrop of the serene coastal view pulls it all together and makes for a very inviting space.”
