audobon-bird

Attention, wildlife lovers: Audubon Connecticut’s annual Environmental Leadership Awards benefit, Experience Nature!, are on sale now. This year’s soiree will be held at the Belle Haven Club in Greenwich, CT on Wednesday, April 12th. Guests will enjoy the famous Captain Harbor sunset, specialty cocktails and a pop art gallery featuring prints from wildlife photographer (and honoree) Melissa Groo. Birds, owls and bees will also be making an appearance (accompanied by handlers, of course!). After the sun goes down, patrons will dine on locally inspired dishes and have a chance to participate in an auction lead by popular auctioneer George McNeely.
This year’s honorees include: Gina McCarthy, the Administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, who will be honored with the Audubon Connecticut Environmental Leadership Award; Melissa Groo, celebrated wildlife photographer, writer and conservationist, who will receive the Katie O’Brien Lifetime Achievement Award; and Lesley and Bill King, owners of Back 40 Farm Group and organic food advocates, who will receive the Audubon Connecticut Corporate Award. “In their own way, each of them are conservation heroes, supporting the work we do at Audubon Connecticut to preserve the beauty of our local environment and encourage the next generation to get outdoors, to protect habitat for birds and other wildlife, and to inspire a conservation ethic for years to come,” says Stewart Hudson, Executive Director of Audubon Connecticut.
Audubon Connecticut is the state office of the National Audubon Society. It works to protect not only birds but other wildlife and their habitats through various initiatives, including education, research conversation and legislative advocacy. To learn more, visit AudubonCT.org.
