GLT’s Go Wild! Event Takes to the Sky

Hot air balloons filled the skies and excitement filled the air at Greenwich Land Trust’s (GLT) 18th annual Go Wild! Family Field Day, September 24, 2017 on the Greenwich Polo Fields at Conyers Farm in North Greenwich.

Guests enjoyed classic family fun, including arts and crafts courtesy of The Brant Foundation Art Study Center, lawn games, a corn maze, bungee trampolines, face painting, pony rides, music by Gunsmoke blue grass band and more—all organized by 2017 Go Wild! Co-Chairs, Ashley Fox, Maria Puntereri, and their committee.

Proceeds from the event go toward GLT, in support of its mission to acquire, preserve and steward open space throughout Greenwich. This summer, GLT acquired its 750th acre of land with the donation of a parcel in central Greenwich.

Guests who took a ride on the enormous hot air balloons had a spectacular view of the expansive 62-acre preserve below surrounding Conyers Farm.

By accepting gifts of open space, GLT is able to permanently protect that land from development, promoting environmental health, waterways, trees, and other natural vegetation.

GLT also uses its preservations for educational programing and community outreach. The GLT Youth Corps, now in its fourth year, participates in a wide range of stewardship projects throughout the year, such as tending to a vegetable garden at the Louise Mueller Preserve, making weekly produce donations to the Neighbor to Neighbor food pantry. They also volunteered their time to set up and help at this year’s Go Wild! event.
