HSS Hosts Tribute Dinner

The Hospital for Special Surgery hosted its 35th Tribute Dinner at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan, raising $3.8 million for education, research and patient care.

HSS is the world’s leading academic medical center focused on musculoskeletal health. At its core is Hospital for Special Surgery which is nationally ranked No. 1 in orthopedics (for the eighth consecutive year) and No. 3 in rheumatology.

Funds raised from the event will back educational and training programs as well as support innovative research. Medical discoveries made at HSS are translated directly to the operating room where patients experience improved clinical outcomes and superior care.

The gala honored Senator William Bradley and presented Paul M. Pellicci, MD, chief emeritus of the hip service at HSS, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Lawrence O’Donnell of MSNBC hosted the event which also featured a special performance by Jon Bon Jovi & Friends. Additionally, the evening was shared with many longtime friends, distinguished medical staff, civic leaders, celebrities and outstanding athletes who have had their mobility restored by HSS, joined by hundreds of leaders from the worlds of business, health, finance, media, sports, the arts, and government.

The event was co-chaired by Kathy Leventhal and Ellen Wright, along with vice-chairs Kathryn C. Chenault and Alan S. MacDonald.

The evening began in the Theodore Roosevelt Rotunda where guests enjoyed cocktails. Later, guests enjoyed a gourmet dinner in the Whale Room where they heard from the honorees.
