Polo for Charity at The Hunt Club

Mother Nature gifted the Fairfield County Hunt Club (FCHC) with, arguably, the most gorgeous day of the summer for the 1st Annual Tommy Glynn Invitational Cup Charity Polo Match, benefiting The Bridgeport Hospital Foundation’s REACH Program, (IOP) intense psychiatric outpatient program for children, adolescents and adults. The weekend’s festivities kicked off with a gala on Saturday evening followed by the charity match on Sunday featuring two long-standing rivals: Gold’s Dragoons (winner) vs Squadron A.

Tailgaters set up displays of grandeur as they competed for Best Tailgate bragging rights and a gorgeous cupola and horse weathervane courtesy of Good Directions, Inc. VIP guests relaxed on lounge furniture provided by Design Within Reach while sipping Whispering Angel Rosé, Moet Hennessy, Blue Ice Vodka, and Valor Spirits Whiskey cocktails. Revelers even got to enjoy a traditional Argentine Asado Buffet, prepared by Chef John of FCHC, while listening to the roar of hooves thundering past.

“Bridgeport Hospital is taking steps to increase access to care and reduce the mental health stigma here in Fairfield County, and we’re proud to help them raise awareness and funds for such an important cause,” said Diana Kuen of FCHC. “We’re bringing polo, the most thrilling sport in the world, to the people and giving back to our community. It’s a win-win.”

The Fairfield County Hunt Club is a private country club and state of the art equestrian center in bucolic Westport, CT. The great lawn leading up to the clubhouse is a polo field dating back almost 100 years. Polo is a re-burgeoning program at FCHC as members can learn to play polo thanks to the help of Brandon Van Loon of Yale Polo, according to Scott Green, who oversees the polo program.

Diana Kuen and Scott Green organized the event along with help from Kendra Wingate. A rematch is set for August 25, 2019. Save the date!
