Save the Children’s Mini Marathon kicked off on May 14, a bright, beautiful spring morning, at Tod’s Point in Greenwich, CT. The 7thannual event brought together families and volunteers from the Greenwich Leadership Council, the Teen Council, Greenwich Country Day School and the Boy Scouts for a 2.62-mile run. The top male, female, elementary school and high school runners received trophies, and all finishers were rewarded with t-shirts, medals and goody bags. First Selectman Peter Tesei declared May 14, 2016 as Save the Children Day in honor of the event. The Mini Marathon was organized specifically to raise awareness and funds for the Syrian refugee crisis; all proceeds from the event went toward Save the Children’s efforts to help Syrian refugees. With its US operations based in Fairfield, CT, the nonprofit has been advocating on behalf of children around the world since 1919.
