Spring Fashion for a Good Cause

One in five children in Fairfield don’t know where their next meal is coming from—a statistic that might surprise many, given the relative wealth of the region. Yet for thousands who depend on school breakfast and lunch programs for meals, weekend and summer meals are not guaranteed. To bridge that gap, New Canaan-based charity Filling in the Blanks currently provides 800 kids in schools in Stamford (plus one in Bedford Hills, NY) and 800 kids at area camps with meals.

To support their mission, Mitchells in Westport, CT hosted a fashion show for the third time, on April 5, 2017. In a unique twist, the runway exposed only the model’s feet, legs and hands, to increase the focus on the hottest shoes and handbags of the season. Jewelry designer Dilara Saatci attended and debuted her new collection. Guests were treated to small plates from Marcia Selden Catering and sipped on wine and Champagne donated by Wagon Wheel Fine Wines and Spirits. A popular raffle item was the use of a Bentley Bentayga for the weekend, courtesy of Miller Motorcars. There was also a giving tree for shoppers to donate towards items such as a year’s worth of milk for a child ($50), sponsor 30 children with fruit for a year ($620) and sponsor 10 children for a year’s worth of weekend food ($2,500). Says founder Tina Kramer: “No child should have to go hungry.”
