Taking the Plunge for Swim Across America

On June 25th, more than 200 swimmers and close to 100 land volunteers and boaters made waves to defeat cancer in the 10th annual Swim Across America Greenwich-Stamford Swim held off Cummings Point Road in Stamford, CT. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $2.8 million to support the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT), the nation’s only non-profit solely dedicated to cancer cell, gene and immunotherapy treatments. Co-chairs Michele Graham and Lorrie Lorenz served as co-hosts for the event while Meline Dickson of Greenwich, CT, who is currently undergoing treatment for stage 4 melanoma, was the honored speaker. The outdoor setting was decorated with red, white and blue balloons, and featured lots of cheering and inspiring words of encouragement, as many swimmers proudly took to the Long Island Sound in honor of friends and loved ones that have been touched by cancer.
