What’s the first thing you do when you meet with a new client? Gathering information is our top priority when working with a new client. As much as this first interaction is a chance for us to get to know the client on a personal level, it’s important to use this opportunity to gather the specifics that will drive the project in a positive direction. This means using our initial meeting to ask the right questions.
What inspires you? I’m inspired when a client has put together a team of experts (the builder, the architect, and the designer) and entrusts us to create their dream home!
If you could design a home anywhere, where would it be? Anywhere out West. I love the vastness of the open sky. Imagine standing with a majestic purple and orange sunset blazing across the western sky, and then looking up at the awesome expanse of the stars.
Where do you most like to splurge when building a home? We recommend investing in the most long-lasting items in your home. This means avoiding things that are overly-trendy or passing fads and instead, investing in an HVAC system, a security system, kitchen appliances, and double or triple-glazed windows.
How have home design TV shows helped or hurt the industry? Builders, designers, and clients have a love-hate relationship with reality television. We think that some shows, which often cram whole-house remodeling projects into small budgets, give clients the wrong impression regarding pricing and time constraints. On the other hand, clients gain new ideas from home improvement shows, and the remodeling/building industry as a whole is growing at a healthy pace. Though reality TV hasn’t driven that growth, it certainly hasn’t discouraged homeowners from keeping up with the latest trends, and using the newest technologies.
