Many of Ethan Allen’s designers come from the fashion world, real estate, or architecture. What they all share is a passion for design, space, and texture. They love helping clients create a space they love to live in.
What’s the first thing you do when you meet with a new client? We start with learning about a client’s needs and concerns. We also work to understand the client’s taste and budget and how they use their space to meet their expectations.
What do you wish all prospective clients knew about working with a designer? We are collaborators on your style and are not there to take over and impose our own ideas. We can do the best job when we see your house and how you live. We’ve seen it all, so don’t worry. We are here to help, not judge!
Which colors are you loving now? We are thrilled about the return of color for furnishings—especially accents. A great neutral paint ties it all together. For paint colors, we love Benjamin Moore Sea Salt. It goes great with beautiful beiges. We also love Benjamin Moore Quiet Moments, which works with most of our Ethan Allen fabrics.
What three pieces should every home have? A great iconic sofa that is timeless, like our Shelton sofa. It’s tufted and features classic styling. The Ming cabinet can be used as an entryway cabinet, a media piece, or a buffet. It also comes in many finishes. Our Nassau ottomans are also multi-functional, coming in round or square styles and in three different sizes. They can be used at the foot of a bed, under a console, or as a coffee table.
Can you name a common design mistake you’ve seen and how you correct it?
Many mistakes come back to scale and proportion, such as a rug that is too small or lighting that is not to scale. We provide a complete design, so the end result is beautiful and functional.
