The design duo started their home furnishings company back in 1989 with a focus on comfort and style. Today, they operate over 30 stores, including one in Greenwich, CT, where youโll find American-made upholstery as well as furniture, artwork and accessories for every room in your home.
What are you best known for?
In three words: comfort, style, and value. If we were to add a few more, it would be: authentic American style with a clean-lined and classic modern sensibility.
Whatโs one thing about your business that most people donโt know?
We almost didnโt start it: Back in 1989, we were considering starting a vineyard/Christmas tree farm in Virginia instead.
What inspires you?
Bob Williams: While it ranges from our travels to the latest movie sets to reimagining past styles for today, fashion is always a part of it. This season we saw great runway looks inspired by one of our favorite design eras: the early 1970s, a freedom- and fun-loving time with great creativity.
What one element do you think no design can do without?
Bob: Comfort. If itโs not comfortable, you will regret your decision and wonโt enjoy living with it. Everything we do is about comfort. It has been our mission since we started the company over 25 years ago. the right kinds of lighting in a room also really makes a difference. Dimmers on all light fixtures is one simple thing to make a room more comfortable, allowing you to customize the light level as needed. Are the cushions comfortable? If not, no matter how โจlovely a sofa looks, you wonโt be happy in โจthe long run.
