Found in the exclusive and gated Penwood enclave of Bedford, NY, traditional architectural details merge with cutting edge technology at this five-acre resort-like property.

The home is hand-crafted in stone with a slate roof. Architectural details give warmth to grand and formal as well as intimate casual areas. “The interiors are beautifully scaled with high ceilings and tall windows that fill the spaces with natural light,” says luxury real estate agent Brian Milton of Compass.  “Extensive millwork and archways are seen in the formal spaces and intimate gathering places.” Many of the rooms feature floor-to-ceiling stone fireplaces and views of the grounds.

On the main floor is a luxurious primary suite with en suite bath, including a soaking tub, his and hers sinks with expansive vanity space and a spa-like shower. Upstairs, a private deck and outdoor fireplace that opens to three bedroom suites, a professional-grade gym and theater.

But the piece de resistance is a 90-foot violin-shaped pool with flanking koi ponds. “The homeowner has been playing violin since a young age and is an engineer and mathematician by trade, so the pool is a confluence of his two passions,” says Milton.

The owner, a triathlete, was inspired by the dimensions of the lap pool space when he realized the calculations resembled a violin. He engaged an award-winning firm to bring his vision to life with a glass-tile bottom, audio underwater, programmed lighting patterns, two koi ponds and a river flow system.

But the pool is just the beginning of this home’s outdoor amenities, which also include a ball field that has a regulation-sized infield for baseball season and a mini football field with field lines and end zones for football season, plus a sports court with basketball hoop lined for foul shots and three-pointers. Also outdoors are multiple terraces, an outdoor kitchen, formal gardens with fountains and footpaths, and an automated fire pit.

Speaking of automated, everything at this estate operates with smart home technology. “The concept of the house is to improve quality of life by making it so that ordinary tasks can be done with greater ease,” says Milton. There are advanced security systems on every window and door, and alarms and cameras with facial recognition technology. Video and audio are wired to turn off if you leave the room and turn on (for instance, the show you were just watching) when you enter the next. Meanwhile, a state-of-the-art Crestron system controls all elements of the home, including lighting, temperature and shades.

Outside, the automated fire pit isn’t the only high-tech feature. The house includes snowmelt patios, a whole house generator and solar panels.

Milton says that with all the home has to offer upstairs, his favorite space might be the lower level. It has a 950-gallon saltwater fish tank surrounded by three flat-screen TVs and billiards table. “It’s a perfect and memorable space for sports enthusiasts,” he adds. “There’s also a custom theater room on that level with a sophisticated audio system.”
