This newly constructed custom home in backcountry Greenwich takes its inspiration from the current owner’s world travels and a few select luxury boutique hotels. Constructed by Christian Rae Studio and LoParco Associates, the finished product is three years in the making, with almost every selection custom-finished—from the millwork and cabinetry to the hardware and chandeliers. 

Glamorous and luxurious yet intimate and comfortable, the tone is as soon as you enter the grand foyer, with its 26-foot ceilings and dual staircase finished with glass balustrade. A black high-gloss front door mimics those found on high-end London homes.

“Every detail was carefully calculated and executed by the owner’s vision, which was to create a modern aesthetic but remain traditional overall,” says Brian Milton, real estate agent for Compass Connecticut.

The floors throughout the house are wide plank quarter-sawn, wire brushed white oak flooring with wenge inlay. Custom cabinets have stainless steel inlays and LED strip lighting.

The owner was cognizant of this so that when moving from the kitchen to the dining to the great room, the color palette and textures are complementary neutral tones.” 

The main living spaces are bright with lots of natural light and luxe finishes including the living room chandelier inspired by a high-end retail store in Singapore and lit stone bar, unique among homes even of this caliber. The high ceilings in the family room recall the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, Puerto Rico. The home office has a different yet complementary feel with dark, rich color tones that stand out from the rest of the home’s color palette, adds Milton. 

The home has geothermal heating. “You get the value add of making the house more sustainable and operating costs that are significantly less than traditional heating and cooling,” says Milton. 

The property is getting attention for its location alone. Backcountry Greenwich is seeing a resurgence, adds Milton, as it offers “more land and privacy and greater expanse for the amenities and trends that buyers are shifting back to.” Multiple work-from-home spaces have become must-haves and this home has many.
