Mid-century Modern Home Embracing Nature

Address: 15 Col. Sheldon Lane
Bedrooms: 6
Bathrooms: 7
Square feet: 8,147
Price: $5,985,000

It’s unusual to get a mid-century modern home this size, says Douglas Elliman real estate agent Nancy Strong of this 8,000 square foot home in Pound Ridge, NY, but since it was built in 1999, it’s bigger than what was customary in the 1950s. “This one is unique in that while it is a large home, it feels very comfortable and the flow works beautifully,” adds Strong. “The setting also sets it apart. On over six gorgeous acres with a pond, it feels like you are in your own private park.”

Architects Depardon & Ogawa designed the home with spacious living and entertaining rooms and private bedrooms and office space. “The two-story living room with wall of windows brings nature front and center and stops you in your tracks each time you go by,” says Strong.

Luxury kitchen designer Scavolini designed the gourmet kitchen with a versatile island for prep work and dining. A Gaggeanau induction stovetop, Teppanyanki grill and griddle, Miele steam oven and regular ovens and Miele microwave/convection oven provide all the top-of-the-line tools for the home chef. “The center island includes the induction stovetop plus grill and griddle, and there is seating at the island, so it helps make this the heart of the home,” says Stacey Oestreich, co-realtor at the Strong Oestreich Team of Douglas Elliman. A gas fireplace in the kitchen and a breakfast nook for dining overlooking the property make the kitchen inviting year-round. A wall of pantry closets between the kitchen and dining room provides lots of storage.

Outside the large glass sliding doors is a lounging area, pool and spa. The property is surrounded by lush greenery and rolling hills. As with most mid-century modern designed homes, it is intimately tied to its surroundings. “Each bedroom has a door to the outside with private patio areas,” adds Strong. “A courtyard is perfect for al fresco dining.”
