Walking through the front door of this 1797 Federal-style manor house in Larchmont, NY, visitors encounter a vibrant hallway with black and white geometric floor and jewel green walls. The eclectic, fashion-inspired décor is a playful take on all the original architectural elements the home boasts, from the front and back porches with balusters to hardwood floors, paneling, and crown molding throughout, to restored fireplaces and radiators that evoke the elegance of the era the home was built.

“Each space has a little different zest and feel,” says Pollena Forsman, associate real estate agent with Houlihan Lawrence in Larchmont. “The homeowners really did an incredible job of turning what was more of a formal turn-of-the-century home into a real living, happy, bright, easy-to-live-in home.”

Set on nearly 1.5 acres, the home has lots of privacy and is sited for a pool and pool house. “The land is so sprawling and can easily hold the pool site,” says Forsman. “Particularly for buyers with children, that has become an important amenity.” The current homeowners have a formal garden and live chickens on the property. “Whether you want to farm your own eggs or swim in your own pool, you can create anything you want on these acres. It’s unusual to have the level football field grounds in this walkable, waterside location.”

Placement is key and this home is close to schools, village restaurants, shops, the train station, Flint Park, which has tennis, paddle tennis, basketball, fields and pools; the ice skating arena; Larchmont Manor beach and park; and the Larchmont Library. ”All of that is at your fingertips,” adds Forsman.

There are six bedrooms over three floors with a master and two others with en suite baths. On the first floor, the master bedroom also has an adjacent dressing room with large windows and a private sunlit office space with access to the front porch. The lower level includes a gym and recreational space.

However, Forsman admits that while the front entrance is a show-stopper, her favorite spot is the back porch: “The outdoor porch expands the whole back of the house and it is fully covered. It feels like you are sitting on a southern estate. It’s very special.
