How Splurge Continues to Update Their Store to Keep Customers Coming Back

From the age of nine Sonia Malloy had a knack for business. It showed in her successful lemonade stands, garage sales and other early ventures. But it wasn’t until she launched a lucrative traveling jewelry business during college that she realized she was destined for entrepreneurship. Fast forward a few years and she is now the owner of SPLURGE, a boutique off Greenwich Avenue with distinctive gifts for every occasion.

What traits have made you successful?
I am very hard working and tenacious and I don’t give up in the face of adversity.  I always listen to my customers’ wants and needs and enjoy making others happy, which has led me to be fanatical about customer service. This coupled with a good eye for unique items, has resulted in an ever changing product assortment that keeps people coming back again.

What are you best known for?
SPLURGE is known for offering a variety of unique gifts, presented in a warm and friendly environment with exceptional customer service. We are also known for being very involved in the local community.

What is one mantra you live by?
Do the right thing, under-promise and over-deliver and always stay true to your word.  Sorry—that’s three!

What is your proudest accomplishment?
Creating a successful business in a challenging economic environment. This success has enabled me to create jobs (and internships) and to use my professional space to, “Do good while doing business.” From food drives to Easter basket collections and charitable giving and events, SPLURGE has made significant contributions to local non-profits and the community over the past eight years. These activities, along with wonderful relationships with my customers, are my most meaningful professional accomplishments.
