Sustainability Comes to Center Court

August 24th marks the first day of the 6-day-long US Open Tournament, with the first return to full capacity since 2019. In the mix of the aces, second services and volleys, the US Open ball people will be there to support this year’s hopefuls. Aside from the bold colors and All-American style synonymous with their designer, Ralph Lauren, this year’s uniforms have been on a tennis court before. As a part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability, Ralph Lauren partnered with Wilson to collect over 450 lbs of plastic tennis ball cans from last year’s tournament and created a high-quality yarn through a unique manufacturing process (something they plan to repeat by collecting all tennis cans from this year’s event too). This yarn then became part of the fabric that you’ll see on the ball people this year in fun, bold color-blocked styles.

For those heading to Queens, or watching on TV, Ralph Lauren has also created some uber preppy and incredibly chic off-court looks to get into the tennis spirit. Added Advantage? Visitors to the Madison Ave and Prince Street NYC Ralph Lauren stores can pop in, take in a game as it’s live-streamed to the store, sip on beverages provided by Ralphs’ coffee and up their fashion game all in one place.
