These days, we all want to do our part to help our communities, both in our own backyards and around the world. That’s where the Veronica Beard Gives Back (#VBGIVESBACK) philanthropic program, which supports women who are making a difference in the world, comes in.
This year, from October to December, Veronica Beard is helping by partnering with Reina Honts and the Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF), which has been on the forefront of funding groundbreaking research in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment—and ultimately the cure—of lung cancer. “As women with family members or friends who have suffered at the hands of this disease, we are committed to helping find a cure,” say Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard.
Reina Honts was diagnosed at the age of 49. She isn’t a smoker and, had it not been for a moment of serendipity, she might not even have been tested. Her mom had lost the battle to lung cancer and so, when, by chance, she saw a bus ad for lung cancer screenings, she went to her doctor and pushed for a CT scan. The early detection saved her life: The five-year survival rate is upwards of 60% versus 6% for late-stage diagnosis.
And funding is critical: Lung cancer kills twice as many women as breast cancer, three times as many men as prostate cancer and contrary to popular believe, lung cancer isn’t just a smoker’s disease. While smoking can be a factor, every year, over 20,000 people are diagnosed who have never smoked.
Here’s how you can help: Veronica Beard will be donating a portion of sales from every online transaction back to LCRF all day, every day through the end of the year. In addition, for every one of their new, non-medical gingham face masks purchased (in stores and online), they will donate one mask to LCRF.
And if that’s not enough, October 28 is VB Gives Back Day, which means a portion of sales from every retail transaction in Veronica Beard stores will be donated back to LCRF.
