Inn Style in Vermont

In need of a cozy getaway by car? Add Edson Hill, a country inn in Stowe, VT, to your list. The bucolic 38-acre property— which was a private estate back in the ’40s—brims with Vermont charm, starting with the 22 rooms and their contemporary furnishings. (You won’t find your grandmother’s frilly florals here.) Rooms are either in the Manor House or in one of four guest houses (containing 15 rooms) and, depending on your choice, can include working fireplaces, soaking tubs and private entrances.

Here are some itinerary musts: Dining: Under Chef Jerome Picca (pictured below), the inn is home to The Tavern, a more casual spot and The Dining Room, a stylish space with excellent views and even better food—including dishes like a locally-sourced cheese board and coffeecrusted grilled swordfish. Or head to Cork in downtown Stowe, which is owned by two local sisters and features an all-natural wine list and delicious seasonal dishes.

Exploring: Stowe is home to some great skiing, of course, but for an off-mountain option, try one of the cross-country ski or snowshoe trails right on property. (You can rent everything in their Nordic Center.) Main Street in Stowe is about a 15-minute drive from the inn, and has a plethora of cute shops and place to visit, too. edsonhill.com
