JEEP GLADIATOR

Image of 2020 Jeep® Gladiator Overland

More highly anticipated than the final season of Game of Thrones, Jeep’s Gladiator is being hailed as the most capable pick-up, well, just about ever. Take off the doors, fold back the roof and drop the windshield and it offers more open-air driving than a convertible two-seater. It also has a practical side, however, courtesy of a load-gulping 60-inch bed. Choose from Sport, Sport S, Overland and Rubicon models, with prices starting at a very reasonable $35k.

A splurge that’s worth it..
MCLAREN 720S SPIDER

The price of supercar perfection starts at $315,000. For that you get McLaren’s latest drop-top rocket ship, which is being labeled the best convertible supercar money can buy. With a glass-topped roof that can lower or raise in 11 seconds—and darken at the touch of a button—the 720S Spider is an open-top masterpiece. This big Mac can also hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, thanks to the 710-hp on tap from its screaming 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.

A Mercedes you can afford..
MERCEDES-BENZ A-CLASS

Image of 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220 Sedan

Mercedes has a new first rung on its ladder of ownership. And with prices kicking off at around $33,500, it’s one very appealing first rung. Replacing the much-loved CLA-class, the new A goes after younger buyers with sleek, sexy four-door sedan styling and plenty of standard equipment, like a panorama roof and Mercedes’ just-like-Alexa MBUX. A 188-hp 2.0-liter turbo powers the A 220, with available 4MATIC.

For carrying loads while looking chic..
RANGE ROVER EVOQUE

Eight years after it first took Land Rover into the booming urban crossover market, there’s a new Range Rover Evoque for 2020. It comes with a new front grille inspired by the popular  Velar model, and a fresher, classier interior. Beneath that still-sexy body is a new platform that provides more interior space and better load carrying. With a choice of 246-hp or feisty 296-hp turbo 4-cylinders, this entry-level Range Rover kicks off in price at $42,650.

Ford designers have ditched bland and boxy for sleek and sexy with this new 2020 Escape. Compared to the current model, this newcomer is longer, lower, wider and around 200 pounds slimmer. Under the hood there will be a choice of a 1.5-liter or 2-liter turbo 4-cylinders, plus a hybrid and, for the first time, a plug-in hybrid version. Expect prices to range from around $25,000 to $35,000.

Porsche has finally gotten around to coupe-ifying its big Cayenne sport-ute. With its swoopy, fastback roofline, raked-back windshield and lower roof, this new Cayenne Couple looks supremely sporty. TOYOTA SUPRA

After more than two decades of breathless anticipation, Toyota’s beloved Supra coupe is back. The big surprise: it’s based on BMW’s new Z4 with the two cars sharing most of their greasy bits, like the terrific 3.0-liter 335-hp turbo-6. It’s only available with an 8-speed automatic, with no stick option. But it looks stunning, it’s fast, a blast to drive and, priced at around $50,000, it’s a good value too.

When you’re ready for entry-level luxe..
LINCOLN CORSAIR

This baby of the Lincoln SUV lineup replaces the tofu-bland MKC in the booming $34,000-to-$50,000 segment of the market. AUDI E-TRON

Audi’s first-ever electric SUV is big news, and one more sign that major automakers are getting serious about going electric. With a body that falls between Audi’s mid-size Q5 and full-size Q7, the E-tron is a game-changer with a 249-mile range and electric motors on the front and rear axles to give a combined 355-plus hp and standard all-wheel drive. Prices of this silent-runner will start at $74,800.

If you love a thrill ride..
ACURA NSX

Image of Acura NSX

You don’t mess with success. That’s why the refreshed version of Acura’s Ohio-built hybrid supercar looks pretty much the same as it did when it landed back in late 2015. But with a 191-mph, 573-hp model like this, you can always sharpen the handling. So for 2020, the $157,000 NSX gets new, stickier tires, stiffer stabilizer bars and some tweaks to the adaptive dampers and steering.

VOLVO XC90

Image of Volvo XC90

Hard to believe Volvo’s current-gen XC90 has been around since 2014. While it still looks fresh, it’s getting a subtle refresh for 2020. Think evolution rather than revolution, but you’ll notice the new-look grille and restyled alloys. Inside there will be the option of six seats, as well as seven, with new middle-row captain’s chairs for added luxury. And luxury for Volvo in 2020 is a cool, new wool-blend upholstery option
