Romance in Antigua

Curtain Bluff beach

Couples looking for romance in the Caribbean can find it at Curtain Bluff Resort in Antigua located on 20 acres of landscaped land nestled between two sandy beaches. The resort boasts one of the highest repeat guest ratios in the Caribbean. Couples come her for destination weddings, honeymoons, anniversaries and for long-weekend getaways. With direct flights from New York, a stay here couldn’t be easier.

Many options, one price: For couples looking to have many options—without having to check the price—this all-inclusive resort is just the thing. From snorkeling trips to Cades Reef to aquatic classes, from yoga overlooking the reef, to afternoon tea—couples like the fact that they can decide to pack each day with activities—or do nothing at all—with no advance planning. Included in the room rate is: beachfront accommodations with a balcony or patio overlooking the water; meals and snacks; bar drinks and house wine, plus all watersport facilities. So couples that want to be active can take part in the water-skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking and windsurfing. For those couples who want to relax, the miles of sandy beaches—with a beach concierge bringing drinks—is a great way to spend the afternoon.

Where to stay: For couples who want the ultimate in luxury, the Hulford Collection Suites is the place to be. The Grace & Morris Bay Suites are located on the third floor of a Caribbean-style villa, right on the resort’s “surf” beach. Both suites are luxuriously furnished with blue-marble bathrooms, colonial furniture, richly colored fabrics and lush palms. The bedroom and adjoining living room lead out on to a sweeping veranda with sun-chairs and a private plunge pool, the perfect place for private sunbathing or cocktails under the stars. The suites can be linked to a Junior Suite to create a two-bedroom suite. Honeymooners—or those celebrating an anniversary—will enjoy the Terrace Suite—it has a private location at the very top of the bluff and has amazing views of the Caribbean Sea. White walls, bright sea-blue fabrics, one-of-a-kind furnishings and glowing woods give the room a sense of calming sophistication. Its large 567-square-foot terrace with infinity edge plunge pool and romantic daybed is the ideal spot for private relaxation and dining.

The spa: The 5,000-square-foot Spa at Curtain Bluff has a variety of treatments, including the popular couples massage. The spa also has an extensive list of facials and body treatments—all five treatment rooms have water views (on clear days, the island of Montserrat can be seen). Couples should arrive early and enjoy the Jacuzzi, which overlooks the Caribbean Sea, and they should relax post-treatment at the open-air lounge where light bites and cool breezes are enjoyed.

Health and wellness: For fitness-focused couples the Wellness Concierge can be just the thing.  Prior to arrival, guests submit a form outlining their wellness goals. After breakfast on their first day at the resort, guests meet with the concierge to map out a customized wellness program based around Curtain Bluff’s spa and activity options. Couples then pursue the program at their own pace – and there is no extra charge for working with the wellness team, so they can design their very own health-oriented vacation with the guidance of the team. Activity options can include tennis games and/or instruction, personal training, Pilates, yoga, aqua aerobics, lap swimming/snorkeling, kayaking, basketball, squash, pickleball SUP, Zumba / dance classes and a full range of spa treatments.

Wine, glorious wine: Curtain Bluff boasts one of the most extensive wine cellar in the Caribbean. It has a collection of more than 400 wines, with varieties coming from around the world. The property’s sommelier, George Williams, selects the curated wine list from over 10 different countries around the world. Included in guests’ room rates, food and wine connoisseurs are welcome to enjoy exclusive wine tastings and tours on Thursday’s at 5:30pm.
