Where to Recycle Craft Supplies

Retake/Remakea new nonprofit environmental arts organization in Peekskill, NY, aims to cut arts and craft waste—and in just four months has diverted more than 10,000 pounds of art materials from the trash, says founder Barbara Korein. You can visit the store (open for shopping on Fridays and Saturdays), or make a donation (Wednesdays).

“People try a new medium or craft and then decide it’s not for them,” Korein explains. “They know how much these supplies cost and by donating them, someone else gets an opportunity to try out that medium or hobby.” Donations can be in any useable condition but they don’t accept anything that might be better suited for sale at Goodwill. The organization relies on volunteers.
