Domestic Violence Crisis Center Holds Voices of Courage Luncheon

The Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) held its annual Voices of Courage Luncheon on May 24 to raise money for its life-changing programs. There were over 380 guests at the lunch, which featured Jackson Katz— creator of “Mentors in Violence Prevention” who is internationally renowned for his scholarship and activism on issues of gender and violence—as keynote and Jennifer McNamara, chair of the Wilton Domestic Violence Task Force, as the recipient of the 2018 Voices of Courage Award. McNamara educates on domestic violence in local communities.

At the event, DVCC also announced its newest initiative, the Brave Wings Emergency Fund, which provides one-time financial support to clients in financial crisis. The money raised from the luncheon supports the important work being done by DVCC—the only domestic violence agency serving Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, New Canaan, Darien, Wilton and Weston—such as counseling, legal advocacy, a 24-hour hotline, SafeHouses in Norwalk and Stamford, PeaceWorks preventive education, and EsperanzaCT and SustainAbilityCT. In 2017, the organization provided free services to over 3,255 victims of domestic violence.
