You may have already tried microblading, but there are other types of semi-permanent beauty treatments that can help enhance everything from lip color to eyelashes. We found out more from Monica Robinson, an esthetician and permanent makeup artist at Eyebrow Doctor, which has locations in New York City and Port Chester, NY.
Q: Microblading has increasingly gained traction in recent years. What are some other popular semi-permanent treatments?
A: As far as permanent makeup procedures go, microblading is still at the forefront, being the
most sought after procedure. Another procedure becoming quickly popular is lip blushing. This is also a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo, which gives the lips a soft, natural veil of color. Eyelash enhancement is also a very popular treatment. It’s a very thin tattoo placed between the lashes that frames the eye, and makes lashes look bolder.
Q: What can they expect from the process?
A: Most procedures take 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours. At the start of a procedure, there is usually a consultation where we discuss desired results and color selection. Numbing time is built into the appointment time. A client will usually numb for 20 to 30 minutes, so as to be as comfortable as possible.
Q: How long do they last?
A: Cosmetic tattoos are semi-permanent. Most require a touch-up within 4 to 6 weeks. which is usually complimentary. After the first touch-up, a cosmetic tattoo generally lasts up to one year. Lifestyle and skin type can affect color retention and may require more frequent touch-ups.
