Art History: Geoffrey Nichols has loved art since crayons were his only medium. “During elementary school, any time an assignment allowed me to draw, paint or craft something, I took it,” says Nichols. When he graduated Brunswick School in Greenwich, he attended a film school geared toward “experimental” filmmaking, where he shot his senior film on high-contrast black-and-white 16mm film developed as still photography. Flash forward 20 years, Nichols’ primary creative outlet has been screenwriting in Los Angeles. But since the advent of camera phones and his discovery of an app called Tadaa, his work has entered unchartered territory. “It’s far more elaborate than Instagram and more user friendly than Snapseed. I am able to recreate the countless images I’d taken since 2007 and do things with them I could never imagine,” says Nichols.

Inspiration: An admirer of fashion and designs of eras gone by, Nichols asked his girlfriend to snap a picture of a woman with a parasol during the annual Governors Island Jazz Age Lawn Party in Manhattan. “This edit is my favorite,” says Nichols.
