This year’s selected artists from Art to the Avenue will all display their winning works from May 4th to 29th in local shops and restaurants on Greenwich Avenue. Here’s one of the artists—plus where to find her beautiful work.
Christine M. Wexler
Briarcliff Manor, New York
Art History: Wexler spent a lot of her childhood in Montauk, NY, and now
her kids do the same. The place motivates her art. “It’s not big wave surf; it’s real everyday life filled with hard working people,” says Wexler, who attended the International Center of Photography in NYC and is inspired by light and water. “Natural light, on a person’s face or on something in nature, allows you to see so much more than the surface,” she explains. She’s drawn to water and its vastness.
The piece: “The Line Up” was taken in Montauk one summer. “True surfers from the area can pick out this spot,” she says, although the landscape has changed. “It was a moment that you would want to last forever, but the break is different and the jetty is gone.”
Find it: Mediterraneo Greenwich, 366 Greenwich Ave.
