On February 9, the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich held their first annual Youth of the Year event at their clubhouse. Three-hundred guests watched as winner Nico Venegas was presented with the primary award of the evening, and Judy Higgins was presented with the Champion of Youth award. The evening celebrated how the BGCG changes lives by supporting youths from 6 to 18 years old. Mark Lazarus, Chairman of NBC Broadcasting and Sports was the featured speaker (he also serves on the Board of Governors for the national organization); William Tommins, President, Southern CT, Bank of America (and a sponsor for the evening) introduced him. Other notable guests included event co-chairs Greg Martinez and Nick Graziano (both BGCG board members) and BGCG Board Chair, George J. Fox. Speakers also included Bobby Walker, Jr., BGCG CEO; Champion of Youth award recipient Judy Higgins; Youth of the Year candidate Kevin Agudela; and the 2017 Youth of the Year, Nico Venegas. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que donated the food for the evening, including Memphis style pulled pork sandwiches, Mojito boneless chicken breast, coleslaw chopped green salad, BBQ beans with pork, cornbread muffins, and house-made garlic pickles. Dessert was provided by Sweet Lisa’s Exquisite Cakes, and Brescome Barton and Two Roads Brewery provided the refreshments.
