The Center’s Night of Empowerment

Inspiration was plentiful at the Women Empowering Women event, held April 19th at the Sheraton Stamford, to raise funds and awareness for The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education. Successful women like Mae Flexer, a CT State Senator and advocate for women and families and Claudia Poccia, Chief Marketing Marketing Officer for BareEscentuals, were part of a panel moderated by best-selling author, entrepreneur and journalist Kate Bohner. Panelists discussed personal and professional challenges (and how they met them). Empowerment is at the heart of what The Center does, says co-chair Kim Hekking: “The theme of the event, ‘Empowering Women,’ is really a distillation of what the dedicated staff of The Center does everyday: we work to educate and empower the community so we can realize our wish of a world free of sexual violence.”

Guests mingled during the networking cocktail hour in the Atrium, before the discussion moved into the ballroom. After a short video explaining the Center’s Girl’s Circle counseling program, a mobile donation moment allowed guests to directly support the center via their cell phones. Over $40,000 was raised over the course of the evening.
