Derby Day at Pequot Library Brings A Bit of Kentucky to Southport

The Derby Day party is one of Pequot Library’s most exciting fundraisers, raising critical funds to support the more than 750 programs, exhibitions, and library services offered throughout the year and helping to further the Library’s mission of Bringing Literature, Music, Art, Science & the Humanities to our Community. Two-hundred and fifty guests at the 8thDerby Day enjoyed a festive afternoon celebrating the 143rdKentucky Derby on May 6, 2017 in Southport, CT. The event took place on Pequot Library’s expansive Great Lawn, with decorated tailgates arranged in a horseshoe around the main party tent. Kentucky fare, including pulled pork sliders, homemade biscuits, and mint juleps, was served up by Cinch Catering, along with Broken Basil cocktails provided by Broken Shed Vodka. With the sun beginning to set, the revelry moved indoors to the Library’s historic Auditorium to view the race on the big screen. The evening capped off with awards for Best Hat, Best Dressed, and Best Tailgate and a rousing round of applause for longtime Derby Day Chairs Jane and Graham Michener.
