Golfing For A Great Cause

When eighteen foursomes teed off at the 3rd Annual Serendipity Golf Classic presented by Barbara Zaccagnini, it was a day of fantastic golf for a special cause. Held in June at the GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford Hills, NY, the day benefitted the B*CURED charity which works to end brain cancer by funding innovative research.

Golfers fueled up for the day with a scenic lunch on the club’s terrace. Then, they enjoyed the exceptional golf experience GlenArbor is known for, as well as the course’s signature wood-fired pizzas and the day’s signature cocktail, a spiked Arnold Palmer. While nobody drove away in the new Buick offered by Minchin Buick GMC in Stamford for a hole-in-one on Number 11, players who won other holes scored high-end prizes, from a golf vacation at French Lick resort in Indiana to a shopping spree at TravisMatthew. In addition, one lucky player took home a Tag Heur Watch complements of Shreve Crump & Low, for winning the post-round pitching contest. The popular silent auction included a round-trip private plane trip to Nantucket or Martha’s vineyard from Tradewind Aviation, a Gray Malin print, fine wines from Putnam Wines and organic produce delivery from Mike’s Organics.

The evening concluded with a cocktail reception and buffet dinner, awards ceremony, cigar bar and luxury gifting suite with items from 90+ Cellars, Arccos, Cold Play Cryotherapy, Darien Butcher shop, Empire City Casino, Johnnie-O, Stella Artois, SuitSupply, Tabasco and TravisMatthew. “From placing a custom pizza oven at the 10th hole to a marshmallow drive later, there was so much thought into making this golf outing fun and different for everyone,” says Karena Bailey, co-president of B*CURED.

Founded in 2008, B*CURED has awarded $1.5 million in the form of twenty-one grants for research being done across the country at top universities and hospitals. While the day was full of competition and fun, it was made more meaningful by the support shown for this worthwhile charity. As event committee member Griff Harris, president of Griffith E. Harris Insurances Services says: “This tournament is always a great time. The GlenArbor golf course is amazing and my guests absolutely love playing the course. Best of all, we’re there to make a difference for an important charitable organization, B*CURED.”
