The Bedford Playhouse hosted its inaugural Author Series program at the GlenArbor Golf Club on May 7, which featured Sheila Nevins, President of HBO Documentary Films and author of the current best-seller You Don’t Look Your Age…and Other Fairy Tales, and Lesley Stahl of CBS-TV’s 60 Minutes. Ms. Stahl interviewed Ms. Nevins about her ground-breaking career as a pioneer for women in a field traditionally dominated by men. Among the highlights of the evening was Academy Award-winning actress Ellen Burstyn, who read a powerful and emotional selection from Ms. Nevins’s book to tremendous applause from the sold-out room. Ms. Nevins then turned the tables on Ms. Stahl and interviewed her about her latest book Becoming Grandma. Attendees all received copies of each book, which Ms. Nevins and Ms. Stahl personally signed at the completion of the event. The program was underwritten by the Board of Directors of the Bedford Playhouse with all proceeds going to the organization’s campaign to complete construction and open for business in 2018 as a vibrant, non-profit arts house cinema and community hub. Until that time, the Playhouse has endeavored to provide programming that is indicative of what will be offered at the facility on a regular and ongoing basis. The Bedford Playhouse will offer 3 state-of-the-art theaters: the large theater will used for celebrity events and programming in addition to screenings; the smaller theater will host intimate events, private parties and screenings; and the third theater—a uniquely designed flex-use space, allowing for a range of public and private events, performances, art exhibits and more. In addition to the theaters, the Playhouse will offer a café, serving light meals all day, including a full bar.
