The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launched the 2018 Man & Woman of the Year campaign at the DoubleTree Hilton in Tarrytown, NY. LLS announced seven individuals that will be considered: Richard Wilkins of White Plains, NY, Diane Rakoff of Edgemont, NY, Lindsay Wyman of Stamford, CT, Gina Lomurno of Stamford, CT, Derek McNeil of Englewood, NJ, Freda Wang of New York, NY and Kathleen Townsend of Greenwich, CT.
Man & Woman of the Year candidates across the country dedicate themselves for 10 weeks to raise funds with the goal of finding a cure for blood cancers and ensuring that patients have access to lifesaving treatments.
The candidates’ goals are to raise funds that will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding goal: a world without blood cancers. Every dollar raised counts as one vote. On June 23, 2018, the LLS’s Man & Woman of the Year Grand Finale will be held at the Hilton in Rye, NY. At the Grand Finale, the man and woman with the most votes will be awarded the title of 2018 Man & Woman of the Year. The true winners, however, are the blood cancer patients and their families.
The funds raised through LLS’s Man & Woman of the Year are used for in a variety of ways.
Money is put toward research to advance targeted therapies and immunotherapies that are saving thousands of lives. Funds are also used to ensure patients have access to blood-cancer treatments as well as education and support on the disease.
Through programs like Man & Woman of the Year, LLS has invested more than $1 billion in research to advance breakthrough therapies.
