A Conversation with Greenwich Hospital’s New President Norm Roth

At the end of last year, Frank Corvino, Greenwich Hospital’s beloved president of 26 years, retired. Now, interim COO Norm Roth has officially replaced Corvino as president. With over 30 years of experience, including executive positions at Yale New Haven and Bridgeport hospitals, Roth brings a background in management, operations and administration. Serendipity spoke to Roth about his new position.

What are your some of your initial plans for the hospital?

I’m excited about being able to move forward on all the strategic initiatives we started planning and cementing the relationships with our physicians. In the next six months we’re looking to increase the scope of clinical services to better serve the community. We need to have more of an outpatient presence and we’re looking at locations in downtown Greenwich and Stamford. We’re also looking to expand our already outstanding oncology services as well as our surgical capabilities.

What are your first impressions of the hospital since you started working there  in August 2014?

Our community is very committed to Greenwich Hospital. I’m talking about time (we have over 750 volunteers who contribute more than 60,000 hours of support each year) and the strong philanthropic support. We have a very generous community. Most of our Greenwich citizens view this as their hospital.

What do you consider Frank Corvino’s legacy, and how do you plan to continue it?

Frank really is a legendary leader and I have enormous respect for him. One of his lasting legacies is the patient experience, which is second to none. I can think of no way to better honor Frank than to continue the tradition of service excellence. I’m fortunate to come into an organization that’s strong culturally and fiscally. Frank established a rock-solid foundation, and with the expansion of clinical services, I hope we’ll be able to better serve the community.
