Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Celebrate 5 Years Selling Home Furnishings in Greenwich, CT.

The design duo behind Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams celebrate their fifth year selling home furnishings in Greenwich, CT.

How has the company evolved over the last five years?

Mitchell Gold: We’re finding that as the economy has improved, our customers are ready to step out and bring some color into their homes — and we feel the same way. This season we’ve introduced some bold yet very livable colors, in small doses but with big impact. As an example, we paired our classic modern St. Jean sofa in luxurious gray leather with our major chairs in a glowing emerald green velvet.

Mitchell-Gold-2What should people consider when shopping for furniture?

Bob Williams: Before you start picking pieces, think about how you and your family will really use the room you’re furnishing. For instance, is your living room more for entertaining or relaxing and watching a movie together? Or both? How many people would you like to be able to seat? This will give you great guidance on upholstery choices you’ll be happy with every day. This is great information to share when working with a design associate at a store.

Mitchell-Gold-3What’s your favorite piece in the spring collection?

Bob Williams: Well, we try never to pick favorites…it’s like picking your favorite child. We do have some favorite looks this season — like putting a bold ’70s-inspired print on a sofa in an otherwise serene and neutral setting, as we’ve done with our new Spencer sofa in black and white jacquard (pictured). We’re also partial to our new chartreuse leather. We saw chartreuse as an accent color in both men’s and women’s fashions in our travels in Europe and it looked so elegant and sophisticated. Mitchell Gold: We also have a new exclusive collection of iconic black and white photography from the late ’60s to early ’70s that captures our inspiration for this season’s collection and brings a room together. They feature some of our favorite people: Bette Midler, Mick Jagger, Truman Capote, Jack Nicholson and Anjelica Huston, as well as some great New York City street scenes.
