Growing up in Darien, CT, Meg Culbertson rode her bike to the Tokeneke Club every day in the summer, so it was an easy choice for her wedding venue. She and Shawn loved the natural colors of the beach, so they kept their color palette simple, choosing navy and white for the bridal party and white, green and pops of blue (in the form of thistle) for florals. The couple wanted their wedding to feel like the festive dinner parties her parents frequently throw, so they seated guests at round tables conducive to conversation and kept floral arrangements below eye level. “We wanted the wedding to give an opportunity to friends and family of ours to get to know each other if they didn’t already,” says Meg. While an outdoor wedding was planned, the weather turned rainy, cold and windy—and the couple was understably upset. Yet shortly before the ceremony started, the sky cleared and the sun came out. “What we hadn’t realized is that the indoor location actually gave you a better view of the sound,” says Meg. “So we opened up all of the windows on the restaurant deck—it was gorgeous.”
